Baobab – The Tree of Life


Sometimes I come across a superfood and can’t rave about it enough. The fact is that powdered superfoods, in my experience, with clients over the past 15 years, can really elevate your health to another level. They are absorbed by the body just like a food substance, so basically you will be able to absorb what your body needs. You can add superfood powders to water, nut milks, or fresh juices or smoothies, and after 4-5 days of including them in your daily routine, you will, for sure start to feel some benefits. They may be subtle at first, but you will know over time as your energy starts to rise.

Baobab is a beautifully, sexy summer superfood and is not called the ‘Tree of Life’ for nothing. The Baobab fruit is simply bursting with health benefits such as high levels of vitamin C, antioxidants and natural fibre. It has a vast range of benefits such as –

  • Helps stabilise weight

Baobab is made from 50% natural fibres, which are not only of great importance for the health of our digestive system, but they have also been shown to be essential for helping you feel full, making Baobab fruit an excellent superfood for weight loss.

  • Balances blood sugar levels

Fibre has the great characteristic of slowing the release of sugar into the bloodstream, which helps prevent energy spikes. Baobab fruit helps to maintain blood sugar levels and prevent energy dips throughout the day. It is also an excellent superfood to take before a good workout. Baobab fruit and powder may also be ideal for those following a low glycaemic diet, making it beneficial for people with type 2 diabetes.

  • Excellent for healthy, glowing skin

Baobab is often used in cosmetic products, because of the high level of antioxidants that it contains. In fact, the Baobab fruit has the highest antioxidant content of any fruit, making it incredible for building collagen. It is a key and essential component in helping you display healthy, glowing skin, which is why I have added this powder to all my Superfood Skin Blends.

  • Lowers blood pressure

A main key mineral found in Baobab powder is potassium, which is known for its benefits for heart health. This incredible mineral is adept at freeing the cardiovascular system by dilating blood vessels and arteries, increasing blood flow and preventing the heart from working too hard. 

  • Optimizes digestion

This fact has been well known in Africa (mainly West and Southern Africa) for centuries and is now also confirmed by recent scientific studies, that both types of fibre, soluble and insoluble, are found in Baobab. These two types of dietary fibre contribute to a healthy and flourishing digestive system. Specifically, this fibre is known to optimize the digestion process and reduce inflammation in the gut. 

  • Increases bone strength

People get so confused over how to get enough calcium in their diet – Well look no further. Baobab is very rich in calcium and magnesium, making this fruit full of minerals essential for bone health. So, adding a little Baobab fruit to your diet is never a bad idea in order to keep your bones strong and durable for years to come. 

  • Helps with Iron absorption

Baobab fruit and powder can play a crucial role in your absorption of a very important mineral, iron, because it is a rich natural source of vitamin C, which is needed to help the body absorb iron. 

Iron is essential because its needed to make hormones, and produce haemoglobin, a protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen from the lungs, to all parts of the body. This helps give your body energy and power to do physical activates.

All in all, including this powdered superfood in your daily diet is going to provide you with a whole lot of goodness. 1 tablespoon per day should do the trick!!
